About CohortLayer

CohortLayer is a B2B analytics service built to solve a specific problem in drug development: most target-validation work relies on published evidence that is checked once, against a single dataset, and never revisited. CohortLayer was built to do it differently — testing private hypotheses against large human cohorts, replicating across populations, and keeping the evidence current as the science changes. The service is developed by a team with graduate and doctoral-level expertise in machine learning and genomics, and is operated by Hemlex, a technology company based in Tallinn, Estonia. We work with a small number of biotech, techbio, and translational research teams, and we are not yet taking on unlimited clients — access is by request.

Built by people who understand both the data and the biology.

The core team brings together expertise across two disciplines that are rarely combined: machine learning at scale and human genomics. Our genomics work is informed by doctoral-level research in population genetics and variant interpretation. Our data infrastructure reflects graduate-level training in applied machine learning and large-scale data systems. We collaborate with academic researchers in cohort genetics — those relationships inform both our method and our scientific standards.

A focused service, not a platform with unlimited access.

CohortLayer is intentionally small at this stage. We work closely with each team that requests access, understand their target and their question, and return evidence that is actionable — not a data dump. Access is by request. We do not take on work where the question cannot be answered with aggregate, population-level genetic evidence, or where the use case conflicts with the governance terms of the cohorts we work with.
