Terms of Service
Last updated: 30 June 2026
These terms govern access to and use of CohortLayer, a B2B analytics service operated by Hemlex (Tallinn, Estonia). By requesting access or using the service, you agree to these terms.
What CohortLayer is
CohortLayer is a research and analytics service. It tests genetic hypotheses against population-scale human cohorts and returns aggregate, population-level evidence to the requesting organisation. It is a tool to support internal research and decision-making.
What CohortLayer is not
CohortLayer is not a medical device, a diagnostic service, or a clinical decision-support tool. It does not provide individual-level genetic results, medical advice, or regulatory submissions. Results from CohortLayer are not a substitute for independent scientific review, regulatory guidance, or clinical judgement.
Access
Access to CohortLayer is by request and at our discretion. We reserve the right to decline, limit, or terminate access at any time, with or without reason. We are not currently operating as an open-access or self-serve platform.
Your intellectual property
Any hypothesis, target, or question you submit to CohortLayer remains your intellectual property. We do not claim any rights over your inputs or the specific results returned to you. We do not share your hypotheses or results with any third party.
Confidentiality
We treat all submitted hypotheses and results as confidential. We do not disclose them to other clients, partners, or the public. We may use aggregated, anonymised, non-attributable insights to improve our methods, but never in a way that could identify your organisation, your targets, or your questions.
Data we handle
CohortLayer does not collect, store, or process individual-level genetic data on behalf of clients. Analysis runs inside the secure environments of managed-access human cohorts. Only aggregate statistics are returned. See our Privacy notice for how we handle your contact information.
Results and liability
Aggregate genetic evidence is one input into a complex decision-making process. We make reasonable efforts to ensure accuracy, but we make no warranties — express or implied — about the completeness, fitness for purpose, or commercial utility of any result. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Hemlex's liability for any claim arising from use of CohortLayer is limited to the fees paid for the relevant service in the preceding three months.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the service evolves. We will notify active clients of material changes. Continued use of the service after notification constitutes acceptance.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Estonia. Any dispute arising from these terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Tallinn, Estonia.
